Milwaukee City and County Sales and Use Tax Rate Changes Effective January 1, 2024

Please update your cash registers and computer systems to account for the change.  Make sure your sales staff knows to adjust their quotes for the change in rates if materials are going to be purchased or delivered after January 1, 2024.

The city of Milwaukee, which is the only municipality in Wisconsin that imposes a city sales and use tax, put in place a new 2% sales and use tax rate, effective January 1, 2024.

Milwaukee County sales and use tax increased their rate by .4% to 0.9%. Sixty-eight other Wisconsin counties have a 0.5% county tax rate. Visit the link below to see which counties these rates apply to, as well as guidance on which types of sales would be subject to these rates.
