In the October updates for QuickBooks Online (QBO), Intuit is planning a big change to the Business view. Below describes how the new setup will look, where all of your previous menu items are grouped, along with a new feature, which can be accessed anywhere within your QuickBooks Online file, Bookmarks.
New QuickBooks Online Changes
The first major change that QBO users will notice is the layout of the left-hand navigation pane. Rather than the Accountant view, you will now see a more simplified way to navigate around QuickBooks Online. You will now see nine new headings: Get Things Done, Business Overview, Get Paid and Pay, Customers and Leads, Payroll, Bookkeeping, GST, Apps, and a new heading called Bookmarks.
Here is what you can expect to see within each new heading that Intuit has made available in this update.
- Get Things Done: Within this tab you will be able to link bank accounts, create invoices, categorize transactions, and track receipts.
- Business Overview: Under this tab you will be able to see your finances, profits, and projects, showing the reports and information that you want to see in only a few clicks rather than searching for the right report.
- Get Paid and Pay: Under this heading you will be able to see your sales and sales expense transactions. Also, within this heading you will be able to send invoices and quotes, pay suppliers, and manage the products or services you provide.
- Customers and Leads: This tab is where you can set up new customers and track existing ones.
- Payroll Tab: This is the new center where you will pay your employees.
- Bookkeeping: This tab is the general accounting center. Within the bookkeeping tab there are new sub tabs for the chart of accounts, tags, and rules so you can customize your QuickBooks experience to suit your business. This is also the location where you can invite your accountant to work on your books.
- GST: The GST tab is the new tax center where you can see tax payments, taxes due, and taxes previously paid.
- Bookmarks: This is the newest and biggest portion of the October update for QuickBooks Online. You can now fully customize your experience within QuickBooks Online to access reports that are frequently referenced. This will reduce the time you'll need to spend with the file on a regular basis. To set up new Bookmarks, you will click the Menu Settings cog, which will be located at the bottom of the left-hand navigation pane. From here you will be able to select what additional reports you would like to see within the navigation pane, which will show under the bookmarks tab on the left-hand navigation pane. The bookmarked reports can be reorganized in the order you would like to see them.
All of the tabs besides the bookmarks tab can also be reorganized to your preference, so if you use the payroll function more often, you can move it to the top, so it is easily findable. If you deselect any items you would not like to see, the items do not get removed completely but will get moved to the More tab on the left-hand navigation pane to still provide access to them.
Intuit states that they believe the new Business view will help streamline the QuickBooks Online experience, making it easier and more friendly to use for business owners. If you do not like the new Business view, you can always switch back to the previous Accountant view. To do this you will need to click the Menu settings button on the left-hand navigation pane and click Switch to Accountant view. The view can be changed between the Accountant view and Business view at any time.
The rollout for the new look to Business view started in October 2022, and Intuit expects to have a full rollout of the new Business view by mid December 2022. For more information, please consult with your Porte Brown accountant or send us a message via our Contact Us form.
